Dear Uncle,
I write these few lines to let you know that Father is dead. He died last
Thusday morning. He died of the dropsy. The doctor said the cause of it
was a leakage of the heart. He was complaining a little for about two
years. It commenced with faintish turns and would last for about two or
three minutes until about six weeks ago when he was taken worse and there
was two doctors called in but it was of no avail. They said that they
could do nothing for him. His sufferings was great in want of breath until
about two weeks before he died. The sickness at the heart and pain in the
head begun. He was sensible pretty much. All the time he was well
attended to both by relatives and neighbours. He never was left alone
neither by night nor day. He spent the most of his time in praying to his
Maker. All of his family was around him for three days and three nights
before death put an end to his sufferings. There was a very respectable
funeral. On front there was two ministers, then followed by six
pallbrearers, then the hearse with the corpse, then the relatives and
friends, in all there was 33 vehicles and 4 riders. Mother is very much
fatigued and is very thankful to say that she had strength enough to
attend to him through all his sickness and that he left her in good
curcumstances. She has enough to keep her all her life time.
