Kentucky Journal
December 23

Continuing on my account of Christmas in Kentucky I am amazed at the sheer amount of food that is being purchased for consumption over Christmas.  If you are likely at all to get a sugar rush then you'll get one here for sure!  Mind you I have likely contributed to this as I went and purchased a whole load of traditional Scottish sweets for the May household.. things like Soor Plooms, Rhubarb & Custard, Sherbert fountains, Cinamon Balls and all kinds of good things :-)

Seems folks in this neck of the woods go all out for Christmas as they do of course in other parts of the world. I don't think this is any different really other than over here they have large families and so it must cost a small fortune to buy everyone a present.

In the May household all the family come over and bring over their presents to lay under the tree so that when they all gather on Christmas Day they can have a grand present opening.  I'm told that each member of the family also gets to open one present on Christmas Eve.  As I've been adopted into the family this Christmas I get to open one also :-)

I was talking about Boxing Day and seems the folks over here have never heard of that (Boxing Day is of course the day after Christmas).  I also mentioned that I liked Dates and again no-one other than Steve had heard of them.  I'm actually surprised about that as I felt that in the US you would get every type of food available.  Of course other things they don't really have here are Curries (Indian Food) which folks in Scotland would know are our most favourite carry out food. No Turkish Kebab restaurants either. I can see they are seriously deprived over here <grin>

In the past 24 hours Dave, the May's adopted son, arrived in from the Air Force and William, their son, has just arrived in from the Army.  I'll try and get a picture of them both so you can meet them. No sooner was William in and got his ribs cracked by all the hugs he got he was off with John and Laura to a company party at the local cinema.  So dare say we'll catch up with his stories at a later date.

Below are some pictures I took today...

Here are two pictures of Steve playing a Hillbilly Santa :-)

This is a picture of Deb which I had to sneak round the Christmas Tree to take as she doesn't like her picture taken so I'll likely get into trouble for this one!

And if you compare the last Christmas Tree picture you'll see that the number of presents has increased considerably! And more cats of course! :-)
